Flight Mission and vessels listed

Postby Brent » Sun Sep 02, 2012 12:37 am

Steve
I'm confused about the long list of vessels in the mission and monitor page. It seems that you select the vessel that you want to land on instead of doing a vessel search mission.....but there are duplicate entries and clearly some vessels that you wouldn't/couldn't land on. These include sail boats, capsized boats, yachts, small boats, ferries, etc. and many have 2-3 entries.

Are they a capture of some boat traffic bgl or something that IF generates and I just ignore most of the entries?

When you have a moment could you explain how I can use these choices in IF please?

Thanks

Hi Brent,
As you saw the list shown are the boats included in boats.ini. They don't all have different names the are merely the boats included in the sim. If you know you can land on one like the carriers, then If you only have one checked then that is the only random choice. If you cannot land on a boat then it is just a more simple search mission.

Thanks Steve,
I'm still confused, perhaps because there are vessels listed that are irrelevant...why would there be a choice to land on a capsized vessel?

As far as I can tell, vessel landing and searches are mutually exclusive (i.e. I can't choose them both at the same time for a possible mission generation). Is that correct?

Yes, the missions side of things is basic for the time being, for example, the bell is set for landings and the C172 set for searches, after a Flight Gen Search there may be a mission provided in the list, a search or a landing, or a maintenance mission; you have to find your way from there until the missions upgrade is provided. I think you've worked out all there is to know about it so far, and as you found, it can be used for a bit of fun without too much messing around. :)

Thanks Steve
I'm enjoying the missions with the different aircraft add-ons I have as well as the airport-to-airport flights. Blasting along at 3000' at 500 knots in an F-15 to perform a vessel search is smokin' fun! :D

IF get's you in the cocpit really quickly with a nice flight all arranged. Even so I'm finding a lot of serious simmers are using Ideal Flight if they only want the route table and panels / views kept arranged, Ideal Flight is getting a very good work out.
