Please try Preview 25d:

Ideal Flight Professional P3D v4/5

This version logs errors in the Flight Log (Main popup menu) when the Assist window is activated and allows the window to continue.

Internally I have also altered some code that instructs the simulator to provide information in a slightly different way that might cure the problem but there's no log for that as that way it can't be divulged if there is a problem or not, IF would be unaware in those cases but need not be concerned.

Thinking about it, when only certain parking locations are affected, there's most likely something amiss in the installation of the simulator. If Preview 25d works OK that could still mean there's a problem that could appear elsewhere when running the simulator.

...beware I just found out that version 25 c/d IF In-Sim menu will disappear when reloading a save game as I was mid way adjusting it and not finished. Even so the Assist problem can be checked out with 25d. I'll upload another with the menu done later.

I took a look at the flight log myself. I moved to gate A 24 just fine, but when I tried to open the flight assist dialogue again, I got the error. It was not logged, however, from what I'm seeing.

You have to send files to my personal address if you have it or the contact page address on the site. There would be the last line of the log showing an assist window error if there was one.

So what happens after you reselected the Assist window? You get the error popup which you can OK to? Then does it come up to the window anyway? If so what items are missing, a missing item might give me a clue or at least if some of the items are there seeming OK that would help. Unfortunately I'm just stabbing in the dark on this one.

...checking through the startup of the assist window this is what happens, the window invokes a call to find the traffic around and it does not do any text to floating point. One text to floating point value is trapped if it can't be done and outputs a log entry rather than pop up a message, so that would not produce an error. Next the window is shown on screen and that has no text to floating point conversions.

You say that the window appears OK at first and you can move the plane by selecting a parking location, but the subsequent attempt to start the assist window fails with a text to floating point error. From previous posts it seems that if you already started in that location the assist window would not work, just get an FP error.

How did you find the parking location that causes an error there are many locations, do many cause the problem or is it just one in particular at each airport?

The error comes up, hit OK, window comes up. The screen reader reads as though support has not been implemented, and the drop-downs that would normally contain the location runways and choosing a location to move to appear empty to the screen reader. Edit areas to type read differently too.

I'll send the log to your personal address to see if you can see something.

Edit: Uploaded Preview 25 with more places to catch the error.

So that should catch the region for the error if it's in the assist window. However all these functions have already been called to do many things, index the scenery, build the flight and the briefing, start the flight and load up the assist window list boxes. So if it is in there somewhere it is very well hidden, but the assist window should come up. Let me know if any controls are not filled.

I'm using stock P3D v5. Let me know what version P3D you are using. I think you said the scenery is stock but you installed fsAerodata. You could try without fsAerodata.

I've installed a bunch of catches for the errors you are getting. You can send the log or copy/paste here the lines reading as "Exception: etc." Even if the Assist window comes up it would be best to check the flight log after operating the Assist window.

If the Assist window appears OK at first but later after moving the aircraft does not work properly, that could indicate some scenery file has been locked by reading from another program. That should not happen since those files should be available in shared mode at all times. I can't fix those problems since Ideal Flight will only be able to operate on a fault free system.

In any case check the Flight Log and let me have it by copy paste here, or upload to your cloud server and post the link here as you do with videos or attach to email and send me or the site contact address.
