To test an idea I had, I just removed the following three files from the fsx.cfg folder and tried again:
asa-wx-info.dat
asx-wx-info.dat
wxstationlist.BIN

Then I ran IF with thermal and ridge enabled and now the haze layer looks like the standard fsx haze layer, see shots below. Is this what it should look like using IF?

That looks like a visibility layer, so that could just be it's poor down there, when you look from afar you get that visibility change layer. See what happens with vis +3.

normal looks like this....

I started ASE, reinstalled the haze layer, quit ASE then set IF visibility to normal and now it looks like this.
Starting ASE causes those two files I mentioned to be regenerated, so they aren't responsible...

Yes, it's almost OK but the fog texture seems to interface heavily with the hill, REX and Default FSX here look fine interfaced with the ground or sea. I've not got on ASE on but I know plenty have and no one seen that bad. What does it look like with default clouds as a good test?
