Custom flight plan

Postby Holdit » Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:21 pm

Hello,

I'm just getting used to your product having bought it yesterday. So far so good, but I'm having an issue with VFR flights where I might want to navigate using custom waypoints or VFR/IFR flights using a mixture of VORs and NDBs.

Is it possible to create a flight plan in, say, Plan-G and import it? Or is it possible to edit the IF flight plan using Plan-G or FSX and then have IF regenerate the briefing?

Thanks.

Yes, you can import FS9.pln and FSX.pln files and the planner will move you to the departure and create an IF Flight for it, with all information it can get from the sim data. You can take an IF plan (it's just an FSX xml .pln file) and edit it in the FSX planner, and then drop it back onto IF to complete the Flight preparation. You can use Plan G FSC, etc.

In the upcoming version [sf] out soon, you can:
Import Flight Plans from .rte v1/2/3, .rt2, .fltplan, fs9.pln, QW.RTE, and other file types.
and
Export .rte v1/2/3, .rt2, .fltplan, fs9.pln, QW.RTE, and other file types as required, and you re-run IF setup to get Admin access to set up access rights to the chosen directories.

Thank you for your support Holdit! :D

From the Flight Generator Page once you generated a flight press the .\ button top right, Explorer will open at the \New directory, take the 0_Ideal_Flight.pln and edit that, when finished editing save and drop back on IF, IF might get a manual planner. Also the Ai plans can be uprated and you can keep the AI.dat file and Ai plans for repeat flights, manually copied with explorer. Ai features an upgrade soon.

The added file types functions comes in an upgrade pack which is like a DLC product, the price yet to be set by Flight1.

...When you want different runways allocated in the briefing, use the Edit Plan button on the flight gen page to select the runways, you can add remove waypoints in the text list.

If you want runways allocated by ATC, work out which way the wind should blow to ensure ATC uses the runway you want. Choose destination and departure winds in the Weather page.

IF works out the runways ahead of time when the sim is not running and may only guess 75% of the time, since so many factors effect the outcome including the exact insertion points of Ai traffic.

Thanks for the quick response. It's good to know that importing of .PLN is supported. I did try editing the text version of the IF flight plan and that worked, but it's too tedious to be bothering with.

I'm still not clear, though, about how you import the plan. Sorry if I'm being a bit thick about this, but it's not clear from the interface how you go about this.

I've tried dragging and dropping the .PLN file onto the IF interface, and although IF recognises it, it deletes all the intermediate waypoints.

Confused...

That last message was posted after your first reply, so I tried editing the file and dropping it back in again, but again it only contained the departure and destination airports in the briefing.

Not getting that. Can you paste the plan here for me to look at?

I just remembered there was a bug in [se] that if you have a very short route the waypoints are removed, if that's the issue unfortunately have to wait for [sf] which I'm preparing as we speak. :)

...even though the small flight is created with no waypoints you can run the flight and load your real plan at the FSX menu.

I'll try it again "from the top" tonight and let you know how it goes. If a better way of doing it is on the way, that's good, because for me the briefing that can be viewed from the kneeboard is one of the killer features of this product (the others being failures, thermals/ridge lift and aircraft parking/favourite airports), so it's better if it reflects the flight plan precisely.

Thanks for your help.
