I don't think it's something to do with IF weather or thermal & ridge, since there would be many reports. The Weather in IF does not get that harsh.
I would try a default fsx.cfg; make a copy of yours and then delete it, FSX will create a new one.
From the IF main page popup menu there are the Explorer Locations, FSX Config, that will take you to the directory where fsx.cfg can be found.
