is there a reason as to why would a ideal flight user be getting in the middle of an index process incomplete index and when ok is pressed it finishes but no airports show up planes do show up.

There may be an inconsistency in the scenery or a scenery file is locked by another process.

Make sure the simulator has been run once after installing addon scenery, before running IF.

The index log should show where the index has stopped.

To problem solve on scenery indexing problems:

We know that default scenery is always indexed by IF without issues. However certain problems, perhaps edits to those files by some process can disrupt the scenery files. The simulator may continue to work although something may be incorrect but IF won't allow it. We might need to reinstall or repair the scenery in that case.

Also we might find some kind of addon scenery presents a feature that IF has not yet encountered or the file format is incorrect or presents some issue of locked by the addon configurator program. Rebooting might clear that configurator program from locking a file and see if the IF index can complete.

We can disable certain addon scenery and see if the IF index can complete. If that is a cure we need to look at that particular addon, reinstall it or update it.

Let me know where the problem arises and with which version of the simulator and what addon if any is concerned. Then I can look into it in more detail.

He installed stock sim and still has the issues. It is actually default scenery... Sim is P3D V4.

Stock sim is the same for everyone. Stock files are identical no matter what the PC.

So with this kind of issue something is different to stock. If I am to help with problem solving on this PC and I don't have hands on, I need to know what is different. This tends to indicate the sim is not actually stock or it is not clear of interference from some other process.

The index log and the flight log should be inspected after an attempt to index the sim. Lines from the logs can be pasted here very easily. Also remember to make sure to use the latest Preview build 31.

...for example here I paste the last few lines from the index log on the stock P3D v4 scenery, before the Info Text:

Process Waypoint Altitudes: 29/09/20 9:06:23
Process Weather Stations: 29/09/20 9:06:27
Fill Airport Arrays: 29/09/20 9:06:29
Copy Scenery Layer File: C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional\Index\Scenery.idx
Index Additional Mission Locations: 29/09/20 9:06:29
Make Index Info File: C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional\Index\Info.txt

When an index fails the log will end prematurely, that can indiocate at which point the index fails.

The file:
C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional\Log\Index.log
can be opened in Notepad.

A stock scenery is that with no addons set in P3D. In the Options, Add-Ons menu, addons can be unchecked to disable temporarily and P3D closed. Alternatively, when installing a fresh P3D we can rename the add-ons folder: C:\Users\you\documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons

Then later rename back to re-apply those addons.

Hi Steve,

He figured it out. I showed him how to actually make the sim stock with your instructions and he was able to get the index working. Now when IF loads a flight via "fly", his sim immediately crashes with no errors in the flight log that would indicate what it could be.
