Some questions - weather and PMDG MD-11

Postby molleh » Sat Sep 01, 2012 3:25 am

Hello,

I have been using IF for quite a while now (hi Steve :mrgreen: ) and I love it, I just have a couple of issues I would love to sort out!

First - with the IF generated weather, I have issues where IF will update the weather midway through a flight with very different parameters. For example, one time while flying I was about 50nm to my next waypoint (80nm or so total to the destination) when the weather was updated and it shifted the winds around enough that my plane "crashed" due to the severe overspeed condition. Is there any way to avoid this sudden weather changing?

Second - I still have not been able to get the PMDG MD-11 working properly with IF (well, not without some messing about). The MD11 always loads with the 2D panels all screwed up. They are undocked and scattered all about. Now this isn't a huge deal since I use VC only anyway, but it's still really weird. Secondly, IF never connects with FSX when I'm using the MD11 unless I wait about 30 seconds after FSX loads, then I go to one of the FSX menus that pauses the sim (i.e. the weather settings menu) and go back to FSX - then IF "catches" FSX and initializes properly.

Any ideas Steve? Thank you for an awesome product :)

With the PMDG's delete the panelstate files in the
PanelState directory Ideal_Flight.FLT.fmc Ideal_Flight.FLT.sav

WIth the MD11 try setting your panels up and use the IF: Main Menu item save settings then try reloading the flight with "Start Flight".

The weather may appear to change depending on the speed of the aircraft, since the weather can only be updated occasionally. But there should not be a significant change to the winds. Is your fsx.cfg weather settings default?

One thing can do that is the jetstreams, they stay more or less constant to avoid falling out of the sky when the weather updates. You would have to be at around 38-46 000 ft.

You can try with the update more often...

C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\Settings.ini

default:
[Weather]
WeatherUpdateNm=120
WeatherUpdateMins=60

try:
[Weather]
WeatherUpdateNm=60
WeatherUpdateMins=30

Thanks Steve, I will try the weather tweak.

I still can't get the MD11 to work properly. Forget about the panel for the moment because that isn't so important. Mainly I just want to know why IF can't interface with FSX when loaded with the MD11. I still think it is the 17 second initialization process of the MD11 that is blocking IF from hooking to FSX during the the first few seconds after loading.

I didn't get that, all I had was the handbrakes off. I'll have another look at it, you have got the latest update?

Speak later.

Yeah I do. It has had these MD11 issues since the very first version of IF I tried

After a fresh install I got the startup correct with the handbrakes on this time.

Don't forget all IF does is run FSX from the command line. As long as the aircraft can save it's situation in FSX and reload it, it will work with IF.

I arranged the views and used the IF Main Menu: save settings, then chose start flight and the thing came up with all arranged properly.

Well, what I tried doing was starting FSX via IF, then loading a standard quick flight from within FSX with the MD-11 (which loads correctly with panels in place). Then I did save aircraft settings. It still loads all messed up when I start a flight with IF.

Also on your system, does IF interface with FSX when using MD11 without having to enter/exit a menu?
