Kneeboard Nav Log CTD Question

Postby decus22 » Sun Nov 13, 2011 4:28 pm

After I bought Ideal Flight, I loaded up my first flight and pulled up the kneeboard to check out the new Info at my fingertips. Got to the Nav Log and bam CTD.

I went into troubleshooting mode and made the same flight plan inside FSX. Loaded up the flight, clicked on Nav Log in the kneeboard and CTD again!

Checked event logs MSVCR.DLL error

Google led me to some .NET and Visual C++ Uninstall Reinstalls No Fix.

I uninstalled Acceleration pack, same flight plan no CTD, Reinstalled same flight plan CTD.

Long story short I fell into the root of the problem. Airport to Airport name length in the flight plan!

Two Questions

Has anyone ever heard of this and/or had this problem?

Will someone with FSX Service pack 2 or Acceleration, Internet explorer 9, and Windows 7 64bit test this?

Select stock Cessna 172, Load KOUN to KSNL Direct Route flight plan, open up the kneeboard and select Nav Log and post your results.

Hi,
I installed IF [rj] pre1 fresh to be sure, and made my departure KOUN and destination KSNL, nice little flight.

I went into the flight and could not get any problems with using the kneeboard.

from the plan file:

<Title>[Ideal Flight] KOUN to KSNL</Title>
<Descr>KOUN, KSNL</Descr>
<DepartureName>Univ Of Okla Westheimer</DepartureName>
<DestinationName>Shawnee Rgnl</DestinationName>

Are you saying you edited the plan and made one of these shorter to stop the CTD with access to the kneeboard?

Anyway, a very strange one, but this is most likely caused by subsequent installation of .NET libraries after installing FSX.

All the best;

I know its not ideal flight causing it.

I've been able to troubleshoot it down to the size of the kneeboard vs the length of the To -> From airport names in the HTML Nav Log file the Kneeboard displays.

i.e. as long as I stretch out the kneeboard window as wide as it goes before I click on the Nav Log button it doesn't matter how long the names are I don't get a CTD. But if I try to resize it smaller with long airport names it crashes FSX to the desktop.

It only does it if I have service pack 2 or acceleration installed.

I'm wondering if could be your version of internet explorer, even if you use firefox, it is possible the Ie installation may cause this problem.
