Ideal Flight is a very stable program. So far only mangled windows systems have caused any problems for IF, and would cause the same problems for any similar program.

Around 5-6 IF installs have problem installs due to .ini files and FP numbers, and there have been 2 issues of simconnect being unavailable through the side-by-side mechanism. Both these issues are caused by windows registry corruption.

...one other problem came about after the default Windows Virtual Memory settings were altered, the world map would not load. IF's memory management is designed to operate with normal VM settings, the swap file size is not an issue.

From version [sf] no floating point numbers are stored in the config and settings ini files to avoid the installation problem whereby the compatibility system is corrupt and intercepts FP numbers and mistakenly converts the decimal point character even though it's already correct.

From version [sf] the setup program checks and corrects access privileges on the usr\docs\fsx save game folder. If the security is wrong the flight files cannot be copied there during the flight building.

The IF setup program can be used at any time to check the IF/FSX installation and registry settings. Any problems are automatically repaired. If your FSX location changes but the FSX registry points to the old installation, IF will ask you to confirm the location before repairing the FSX registry setting.
