A bt more about simconnect... Here's a list of simconnect modules on my system when I do a search for 'simconnect' in "C:\Windows\WinSxS:
\x86_microsoft.esp.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_1.0.20.0_none_27a6545ce93c81e5\
simconnect.dll: 1.0.195.0 <- installed with LM P3Dv2.
\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_1ed9da73c880e429_10.0.62613.0_none_6996383860d83d25\
simconnect.dll: 10.0.62613.0 <- installed with DTG FSX-SE.
\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61259.0_none_55f5ecdc14f60568\
simconnect.dll: 10.0.61637.0 <- installed with FSX Acceleration SP2, FSX Gold, and DTG FSX-SE.
\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.61242.0_none_e079b46b85043c20\
simconnect.dll: 10.0.61355.0 <- installed with FSX SP1a, and FSX Gold.
\x86_microsoft.flightsimulator.simconnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_none_dd92b94d8a196297\
simconnect.dll: 10.0.60905.0 <- installed with FSX Deluxe and Standard RTM, and FSX Gold.
All these modules reside happily together in the Side by Side (WinSxS) folder along with all the other Windows software files, called a 'flat', copies are just projections of these files. Simconnect.dll files encapsulate the Windows named pipes network protocol, and provide support functions made available for external applications to call, so these addons can talk to FSX/P3D.
Each addon is assigned a network channel to converse with FSX/P3D using simconnect, these can be from any compatible simconnect version found on the system. Any number of addons can be run with FSX and it does not matter what mix of simconnect versions handle these addons, as long as they are compatible with the current FSX/P3D installation.
IF10 uses simconnect 61242 because this works for FSX with or without Acceleration. Using 61259 would require customer intervention to install Acelleration, SP2, or Gold, whereas 61242 works with any FSX installation.
IF10 version sh (currently only available as a preview beta version from the new builds section) can be set to use various versions of simconnect from the submenu on the IF10 Setup page popup menu. This is because IF10 now handles FSX and FSX-SE alone or in combination installs.
