DX9 v DX10

Postby Steve Waite » Wed Jul 27, 2011 4:30 am

With DX10 you get better visuals, shadows, reflective surfaces, water, transparency, and so on. A slight increase in available CPU bandwidth is also released, since more work is done within the GPU.

A problem with DX10 is with textures.

Some addon aircraft and scenery items like trucks may not support DX10; check before purchase. Another problem can be seen in many runways, where concrete meets another surface. The texture flutters, like a lamp is switched on and off randomly while aimed at the runway.

Addon airports will avoid that usually, but many of the stock airports exhibit the problem.

If you are OK with that, then DX10 mode will deliver the best view.

This is the second setting that I've set then changed back to the original lol!

I had tried DX10, wasn't really sure if the graphics were any better but because everyone recommended this I assumed they were better.

I did NOT like the flashing runways and taxiways, so I went back to DX9 and I don't see those problems anymore.

I may just have to give DX10 a try one more time, maybe I'm missing something.

Hi Jeff,
The main thing is reflections and light bloom. Have a look at the shots on my gallery page, all DX10.
I don't get bothered by the runways fluttering, and I like the in cocpit shadows and light bloom affecting the view of the instruments.
There is not much in it. You are OK with either really.
All the best; Steve
