Thank you very much for your support.

How about this:
Go to the Mission Page, button on the flight gen page.
Click on Enable Equipment Damage
Flaps and Gear damage should be enabled.
You may also want to enable failure messages so you know when your flaps ripped off :D

Now at the bottom of the page pull down the list box: probability induced failures
choose one of the reliability settings, say "Reliable"
Enable/disable the systems you want to wear out and fail.

if you push the engines too hard they may fail.

Glad you are enjoying IF.

HI Steve,
Thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like you already have some very cool stuff in Ideal Flight relating to proper aircraft management and damage resulting from improper flying. I will definately follow your suggestions. Thanks again and I am looking forward to many hours enjoyment from your program!

Don't forget to check out FSN http://www.flightsimulatornetwork.com/
there's an IF group and they've all got IF there...
I'm going to bring out version [rp] sooner than the usual once a month, since there is a bug in [ro] stopping the destination Ai Traffic appearing on most occasions, and a couple of other tweaks needed doing.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the heads up on the FSN website and your new version 'rp' that is coming soon. I have two quick question I was wondering about concerning the installation. When the new version comes out ...

1) Can I just install 'rp' over the 'ro' version I purchased or do I need to uninstall 'ro' first?

2) When I installed 'ro' it asked whether I wanted the installer to overwrite the FSX thermal file and I said no because I am using ASE for weather and I was worried it might affect its functionality. After reading about your weather, it sounds interesting and I would like to try it out. Will I be allowed to overwrite the FSX thermal file the next install and if I do, will it affect ASE's operations?

Thanks for being patient and answering my questions!

good questions:

1. Every time IF comes out just install over the top. You get the chance to drag and copy the data for backup with Explorer. You don't need to install older ones first. I usually send instructions with new versions if I have your email.

2. There is a file in FSX that has the definitions for the thermals. It makes small ones and large ones etc. Then FSX places them around at random.

IF renames the file so it is saved but not used by FSX. IF creates a constant backdrop of up and down air currents depending on the temperature of the ground, and its reflectivity, heat storage etc. Then IF creates up and down draughts over areas likely to cause it. A forest on a sunny day surrounded by grass and water would present a hotspot, or a town with dense urban areas, or lots of tarmac - you may get a thermal lift here. Cold air sinks so watch for that outside thermal lift areas.

You can run the installer or uninstaller in control panel, and right click for the popup menu - you can rename the thermals back and forth there.

...so if you leave the FSX thermals file in place, you get the regular thermals all over the place and also the IF thermals. You can turn off the IF thermals in the IF Weather page.

no problem... IF does a lot of stuff so can be daunting at first. If you look in the help system (F1) have a scan through the index page, lists all the main things...

Steve, with the recent licensing change announcement, is there any chance you'd create a version of IF for Prepar3d? At Orbx we're encouraging our users to migrate to the new platform, and IF is an excellent complement to our scenery. Just a thought.
