Future IF

Postby Steve Waite » Mon Jul 25, 2011 1:18 am

I'm gathering thoughts about possible future upgrades to IF. Here are some:

DP/STAR waypoints option. Add WPs and Navigraph WPs to the plan with Edit Plan - ADDED

Option to start the flight right on approach, or some way back convenient for landing - ADDED

Complex unreliability & failures - ADDED

Add airports to subsets without a subset loaded, but instead choose the subset(s) to add to - ADDED

    Ai Folders - ADDED

Control and picking of Ai aircraft and choosing their routes.

Committed profile: so you can set options like; choose to accept the result, and no save/restore/advance functions.

    Multiple Parameter setups per plane.

Automatically choosing a particular fsx.cfg file for the flight conditions, depending on plane/scenery.

    More mission types

Enchained destinations list: Generated flights progress through a list of airports along a route, and return to the start when the list is exhausted

Any other requirement’s I could consider?

Luis also mentioned breakdowns and failures.

I do have a system designed that can add advanced unreliabilty features, like intermittant, and other problem types, and take into account environmental conditions, and aircraft handling.

Hi Steve, How about a possibility to use IF weather on a server for multiplayer flights?

IF weather works on multiplayer flights!

All the players have IF, the date and time will be the same for all when they join a host. Assuming all the weather settings are the same, you will all get the same weather.

Starting the sim mid flight

Postby Steve Waite » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:21 pm

Starting the sim mid flight:
The major problem is having the aircraft controls all set up. So when you advance to TOD, you would generally be in cruise, so all the controls are set.
This is why Ideal Flight can do the advance, because it uses the current setup of the aircraft for the new flight file down route.

Instead:
If you generate a flight without TOC/TOD you can still advance to TOD, IF finds a good place far enough away from the airport for the current descent required.

So you can climb to say 2000ft set yourself up at approach speeds and then do advance to TOD!

Also Advance to TOD does not require that you have reached TOC.

This might be a bit outside the box for this particular addon but it's all about the realism.

You see all these addons that have full virtual co pilots that will practically fly the plane for you, to me this is not what it is about, I want to fly the plane.

That being said there should be a copilot of some form as there would be in real life.

Very basic functions like responding to radio calls and changing the settings of the auto pilot if needs be.

I often do flights that run into the hours and having to constantly listen out for a radio call or risk missing it and having my flight plan cancelled because I went to the toilet or my daughter was talking to me at that particular minute and I did not hear the radio call.

Like I said this is probably outside the box for this addon but I figured I would mention it.

Hi Steve,
I am a new user of Ideal Flight (just bought it over the weekend) and am really liking this program.

I read your new features list and would like to cast a vote for 'complex unreliability and failure' to be added. It looks to me like you already have some capability in making this aspect of FSX better but at this point I have not determined how far you went to provide this capability. For example, if I abuse my engine and run it too hard, am I more likely to experience engine failure? In the current flight or over repeated flights? Whatever you can improve on in this area will make FSX much more like real flying and the owning of a plane.

Congratulations on creating such a nice addon for FSX. It has really added to my enjoyment of this sim.
