i've run out of time just now - back later

In the meantime the best way to handle the "load default flight first" situation is to do as I said which was:

Run FSX alone - and once up and running - then with IF press the Fly! button.

Steve

For Flight 1's Cessna Mustang, I fired up FSX to the opening free flight screen with my default C172, then hit 'Fly' on the IF menu. The Mustang loads with the correct flight plan, payload and fuel but I'm unable to start from cold and dark. I switch on the battery, hit the engine start L and N1% spools up to about 20% but doesn't ignite...same for the right engine.

Yet if I repeat this without IF running the show it starts according to the cold and dark procedures for the aircraft after loading the default MS C172.

My cold and dark settings are fuelled, pbrake on, and kneeboard. I tried it with magneto switch on (wild ass guess) but that had no effect.

why not "repeat this without IF running the show"
but once loaded the plane, save the flight
then exit FSX
from explorer choose the .FLT you made and "Open with..." -> FSX
see if you can start the engines

This is essentially all that happens when you press the Fly! button - except it is a .FLT with the current IF settings - it's got to be setting in C&D maybe the battery switches? All the IF settings are just the items in the standard .FLT file.

anyway i'll be able to have a look later on tonight - back later

have you tried with a default warm cocpit, the engines already started?
next go into C&D and turn off engines
now rebuild and fly, can you start the engines now?

Hi,
I installed and started the Mustang with engines off, and the engine starting went without a hitch - i left magnetos and batt switches on.

Bottom line: you don't need a default plane loaded first. :ugeek:

All the best
Steve

Steve
I don't know what you're doing that enables the Mustang to start manually from c&d through IF. I used the same settings as you (batt and mags on) and have had no luck with it at all.

I also tried different variations (load my default and then start IF) but no joy. Yet when I start FSX independent of IF, load my default situation, and then switch aircraft the Mustang starts from c&d no problem.

There must be something different about my settings but I can't guess what it might be.

I've just spoken to another owner and says they have no engine trouble but cannot operate one of the instruments - reinstalled etc.

can you try the default warm cocpit and turn off the engine checkbox only then build a flight
you should be able to start the engines

...i'm wondering if it is better to always start with the items all on, then reduce them to find the "ultimate cold setup" for that aircraft.

The only problems that have been reported are where there are no switches in the plane representing one of the generic FSX items in the .FLT file. So the item must be in an 'on' state when the plane starts.

IF uses a .FLT made by FSX, if you get in the cocpit with it all running, then save settings, that may make a more reliable starting point for the aircraft. I've found no issues with the Mustang, but I generally have more problems with complex addons than most seem to.

Thanks Steve but no joy, tried it a couple of times with the same result.

Went to the c&d options, hit default, then unchecked engine start and regenerated the flight. Used the Fly button to start FSX but after loading had no luck getting the engines going...same persistent problem as before.
