No Aircraft Found

Postby jimh20 » Tue Sep 19, 2023 6:16 pm

Hi Steve,
After planning hundreds of flights, IF Pro had become more and more sluggish in operation, until today, when it simply locked up.
I decided the best way forward was to uninstall/reinstall a fresh entity of the program. All seemed to go smoothly with the installation, but when I tried to do a full Scenery/Aircraft indexing I got a message "No Aircraft Found", and IF Pro closed.

I hope you can help, as I'm grounded until I can get a plan!

Regards, Jim H.

Hi Jim,

I can't be more helpful without more information. When you say sluggish, for example, is that during starting up Ideal Flight?

When you reinstalled Ideal Flight, did you remove any folders in "C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional" before installing? Did you restore your profile folders from a backup?

This could be a problem with an addon aircraft, perhaps due to a poor xml setup or incompatible aircraft, since this can't happen with a stock install of P3D and it's not something that's been reported before.

Ideal Flight will scan your xml setup and index scenery and aircraft installed that way. I would disengage your addon aircraft and see if it can find your stock aircraft first.

...also do you make sure after installing any addons to run P3D first so that it configures itself fully for those addons (scenery or aircraft) before running Ideal Flight so that Ideal Flight can read that new configuration properly?

Hi Steve,
Sluggish: Very slow movement from step to step while planning a flight.

I didn't remove anything from ProgramData.

I did restore from a backup.

I have no aircraft installed outside of Simobjects.

I should add that I'm very ancient, and almost all of my previous expertise has deserted me. Perhaps you could guide me step by step to a fault free installation?

Best wishes, Jim

Errors found in xml packages and other addons will be reported in the Log file found in:

"C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional\Log"

Look for 0_Flight.log (0 being the current selected pilot so if your pilot ID is 1 then you will look for 1_Flight.log). Listing by "Date Modified" in Explorer will place the file near the beginning (or end) of the list.

Reinstalling Ideal Flight usually makes no difference to how it performs as this only sets up default settings which are then overwritten by restoring the profile backup.

What I would do in this strange case is make a backup of the profiles then Uninstall Ideal Flight from Control Panel, Remove Programs, then delete the folder "C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional". Then run Ideal Flight as-is (don't restore the profiles yet).

Please let me know how that goes before moving on with the analysis.

Hi Steve,
I use only two aircraft, both installed long ago. As to scenery, I have installed nothing for a long time, but always ran indexing following any new purchase.

I've uninstalled IF Pro as you suggested, and reinstalled. On opening it pauses if I do nothing, then messages "No Aircraft Found", then disappears.

I tried to attach 0_Flight.log without success. I'm pasting the contents below for your interest:

Are any of those addons listed installed recently? Something must have changed in your P3D configuration recently.
Also, is OneDrive operational?

If onedrive is operational it would appear that the xml package definitions don't align with the locations of the addon files for some reason I can't imagine at the moment.

I mentioned earlier that you could try disengaging the addons to test eliminate those.

You could uncheck some of them in the P3D Options, Add-ons list close P3D then test Ideal Flight.

A more lengthy alternative to disengage all addons at once you could rename the "\Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons" folder temporarily and run P3D, then exit P3D and run Ideal Flight so that those addons are not featured.

Perhaps one of the addons is causing the Ideal Flight pilot profile to be unavailable, then after that there will be no checking for aircraft folders and hence no aircraft found message before closing since Ideal Flight can't continue with problems in the simulator settings.

It seems that up till some point everything worked OK. So I suggest elimination of changes to the stock simulator is key to solving this problem.

Hi Steve,

One drive seems normal. I have not installed anything recently. I'll try to eliminate addons now, and report.
