Empty .gfp Plan

Postby jimh20 » Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:42 am

Hi Steve,
I want to say right off that I'm pretty ancient with waning capabilities.

For no reason I can identify the .gfp files Ideal Flight is building for me are virtually blank, while the .pln files continue to have all the waypoints including the approach waypoints.

Latest .gfp file contents: FPN/RI:F:EICK:F:EGPF

Latest .pln file contents:

Can you help me get back to a plan my RXP GTN750 can follow to the destination approach once more?

Hi Jim,

The plan you pasted only has Ideal Flight custom waypoints in it from the Computed Approach, these are simple User waypoints in the .PLN file and are different for each runway and will be unknown to the GTN until they are added to the GTN user waypoints database.

They would need to be added to the GTN user waypoints data by exporting the User Data "\sys_nand0" from the Exports section to the GTN. That would then be two files you export to the GTN. The file shown in the exports section is the default for the Flight1 GTN, so that might be a different filename in the RXP. Otherwise only those waypoints that exist in the GTN will be recognised.

When you export the User data file from Ideal FLight it makes all the waypoints in the plan as User Waypoints because many waypoints from the scenery in P3D won't be found in the GTN database.

The GTN includes a shortened subset of waypoints similar to what would be included in an AIRAC navdata set from a specific date, and will not have available all the waypoints found in the P3D scenery. So you might want to install an AIRAC into Ideal Flight (Ifly, Level-D, AXE, or PMDG) so only waypoints chosen for the route are found to be in the GTN and in the Ideal Flight AIRAC data.

When you see only the Computed Approach waypoints included in the plan, the flight is probably not far enough to pass over other waypoints. If you choose another airport farther away it may then include waypoints from the scenery navigation data such as VORs and Intersections.

That's a lot of information to take in and also you will need to find the file that includes the user-defined waypoints for the GTN so you can export to it. The Flight 1 file is called "\sys_nand0" which contains the user data, you can change the filename and folder in the exports window. When we export to that file it is set up with all the waypoints in the plan ready to accept the .gfp plan data.

I have not got the RXP GTN but as far as I know, it is the same trainer module as the Flight 1 GTN and so it works the same but the RXP may use different folders.

Hi Steve,
Thank you very much for the detailed reply. I am ashamed to tell you that I looked into Export Settings in Ideal Flight, found three boxes relating to Flight1 GTN waypoints, none of them ticked.

On ticking those items, the subsequent IF.gfp plan was back to normal, all waypoints included.

Thank You once again, Jim
