RXP DNS 530?

Postby jimh20 » Wed Jan 27, 2021 4:00 pm

Hi Steve,
Can Ideal Flight compile and export flight plans to the RXP DNS 530?

I'm not sure. Perhaps it can read the regular .PLN flight plans?

It might not, but if I can get a demo of that instrument and it can take a plan file of some sort, I can add it to the Export file types in Ideal Flight no problem.

Thanks for the request Jim.

Just a thought Jim,

If you get a chance, have a look in the 530 functions to save a plan as a file in a folder somewhere. If it can save a plan file then it would follow that it can load a plan file.

If so, I would be grateful if you could send me a saved plan file or two, I'll start work on it right away. Let me know the folder that they are saved to as well would be handy. Send to .zip, attach to email. I can only receive Windows .zip files attached, address on contact page of the site: http://www.codelegend.com/contact.htm#heading

That might not actually save files, but instead it might add routes to a database or not save routes at all. That would be similar to the Flight 1 versions whereby Ideal Flight Exports include the 650/750 but not the 530. However RXP do their own thing with them so it's possible they can be exported to.

Hi Steve,
First off, I have to admit to struggling with the RXP instruments, coming from the F1 GTN750, and not having studied the manual.
As far as I can tell there is no option to export a flight plan nor save one to anywhere. I could only import the sample plan provided, and copy it to what appeared to be another slot in the catalogue.

I've been aware of the RXP stuff for a long time and following crashes enroute with the GTN750, I took advantage of the sale price to acquire both RXPs- GNS530 and GTN750 - perhaps a rash decision!

To go off topic for a moment, does Ideal Flight export to the RXP750 as it does to the F1 version?

Hi Jim,

The RXP might be slightly different to the Flight 1 GTN but both can be programmed in the same way as far as I know. I have been meaning to get the RXP for some time to check it out.

In the Ideal Flight Exports section (Flight Generator page) you choose a file type, then Add Location chooses a folder, and finally edit the file name in the box below the file type.

In the file types selection you will see the GTN .gfp which holds the flight plan. Another item is the nonvol \sys_nand0 which is the User Data reset. This clears the data pertaining to the last route so this will remove any saved items in that file to clear the way for a new set of data each time. That's how the Flight 1 GTN works, however, the RXP might be slightly different and hold the user data in another filename, I'm not sure on that. Back up your nonvol folders before commencing.

Have a go and let me know of any difficulties. If you have no luck with that I'll work on it for the next update in a week or so.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your interest. The RXP GTN750 uses two files, both in a "FPLN" folder, a .gfp file, and a ,.wpt file.

I've sent you an email.

Hi Steve,

After adjustment to my export files, I imported a standard if.gfp file, and flew a short route successfully. No other files seem to be required for a successful route.

Cheers, Jim

Hi Jim,

OK, thanks for trying it all out.

Let me know how things progress and if you find any issues. I'll hang on for now before doing any further research.
