Screen goes black after starting Flight

Postby dutchkip » Sun Apr 12, 2020 8:08 am

Hi there,
Having a small problem, well small.
When starting my plight and pressing p3d button to start IF I get a black screen.
No matter if I close IF it stays black for quite some time.
Any idea why this happens?
I've managed to take of going by EFB screen and after 10 mins in the flight screen returns to normal again.
Is it something that needs changing in my settings?

Attached a pic.

Hi Leo,

IF flights are just the sim starting with a saved flight file. You can try that without IF running at all by opening the Ideal_Flight.fxml with P3D in Explorer.

I imagine there's some odd problem with something installed in your simulator maybe. Not something I've ever heard of happening though. It seems a very odd situation to do with graphics of some kind. Have you installed anything new into the sim lately?

If in doubt run the sim stock and add some things back in for tests.

Another thing to try with black screens and missing views, is to cycle the ALT+Enter key sequence so that the fullscreen goes through windowed mode. The sim can fail to end properly if having issues and that can leave the screen co-ordinates corrupted in the simulator settings.

Windows the simulator programs and games use the ALT+Enter key sequence to find the fullscreen, desktop and windowed dimensions.

In your image it looks like what I see with complex aircraft, a black and white render. I would look at your aircraft installation. As always, choose a simple aircraft and airport and build a flight with that for a test, it's simple to add a new Profile which unchanged would start with simple objects. I suspect that will work as usual, pointing to some kind of installation or setting error with the black and white plane. Assuming the problem appears only with that aircraft. If the problem persists with all aircraft you may have a deeper rooted problem within the simulator.

Other than those things, I can't think of anything else you can try. If all else fails, starting with a stock simulator is a cure for most problems like these.

OK!

When some planes load they take longer and I see the black and white render for a few moments then the sim completes the loading and starts. If it stops there and doesn't eventually start it could be a lot of things.

In Ideal Flight set AI traffic to zero on the Mission page in case it's selecting a model that causes a fuss. The Prepar3d.cfg can set up error reporting:

Code: Select all
[MAIN]
ContentErrorReporting=1
