Confused about airport subsets

Postby spotlope » Wed Sep 07, 2011 2:58 am

Hi Steve,

I'm having trouble with accomplishing what I want to do, so I thought I'd better check in and make sure it's even possible. What I'd like to do is create a subset of airports and then limit the flight generator to that subset for generating subsequent routes. It looks as though it's possible when studying the help docs, but it's unclear how to force IF to only use my specified airports.

I've created a new txt file called "Favorite Airports" and put in the ICAO codes of each of the fields I'd like to use. In the flight generator context menu, I see a way to create a new subset, but no way to load my existing subset or to limit the "generate new flight" function to that list.

Can you give me a hand?

thanks,
Bill Womack

Hi Bill,
Place your file into the C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\Airports folder.
Then run IF and go to the flight gen page and select from the list at the bottom. Your file should appear in the list.
You will need to be within range of one of these airports to generate a flight.
When you go to the map screen, you can select subset in the right hand drop down list.
Best regards;

Thanks for the speedy reply, Steve. Would you believe it - the only piece I missed was the subset drop-down list at the bottom of the flight generator screen. Once I found it, with your guidance, all was well. Thanks!

Speaking purely for myself, I learn much faster when there are images involved. A picture of the drop-down list would have grabbed me much more quickly than a description. Just a thought.

Yes I was going to include pictures eventually. :)
I also plan to put some tutorials on the website.
