Preview 13

Postby Orinks » Sun Aug 18, 2019 3:19 am

Starting the discussion for preview 13.

Not necessarily a bug, but a minor annoyance. Comparing P12 to 13, there is a significant MS delay when pressing escape to bring up the menu with NVDA from any page.

With Narrator I don't notice it.

To reproduce with NVDA running, load up IF P13 and notice how long it takes for NVDA to say "context menu" when compared to Narrator.

There seems to be no difference than usual here. Nothing has been changed that I can recall in terms of menu performance between 12 and 13.

With Narrator there are no menu graphics so the menu will popup quicker. NVDA works with menus even though there are graphics. Since it is used in video demos, I left the menu graphics in with NVDA.

So with Narrator you should get the popup a little quicker, but not by much.

In fact the popup menu should appear in the same time with NVDA as it does with no reader present as they both show graphics.

Also I always restart the system and NVDA before a test with reader. What I find is NVDA spools up the system interrupts and can cause inconsistent performance, as it does on my systems here.

Or maybe something is running in the background such as antimalware service executable.

I've been having a closer look into the menu times and you are correct there's a delay compared to P12 with the menu graphics. Not sure what it is yet.

I found it's actually what can happen in the keyboard routine pressing Escape, not a problem in the menu after all. A good find!

This is going to sound pretty dumb. I left in a delay I had temporarily used in testing. Thanks for that. Good find.

...depending on what's happening in the system in the background, the delay is a multiple of half seconds, up to two or three seconds may be experienced.

There is a possibility of some Accessible text messages, that which is read by the screen reader, to become altered.

Sighted users with screen readers active, please note that the reader will often have a better description than that seen in a label texts.

When closing IF very soon after startup, can raise a focus error popup warning.
