Add On Airports

Postby reecemj » Sat Mar 31, 2018 12:59 pm

My understanding: When Auto Activate Add-on Airports is check the scenery for depart and arrival airports are used and other scenery in p3d is disable. Example my flightplan begins and ends in Orbx Germany. Orbx Norway, England and Wales in p3d would be disable by IF. Is this correct?

Edit: Well I guess I got this wrong. Just loaded a flight check scenery library the other scenery is still checked.

Hmm, be aware that if one app is run with admin privileges then the other apps must all run like that too. It is a windows security thing, can be got round but will not be built into IF as it breaks security rules.

When we use the auto-scenery setting we must be very careful to first ensure that all the sections we want are enabled then make an IF index. Now we can turn on auto-scenery. If we re-index now we would only have limited scenery.

Before doing all that we need to ensure the system security issues are sorted out and that all the scenery is installed properly or we get problems right away.

With this IF setting scenery is only enabled on a per section basis, so my addon EHAM will turn on and all other airports like it will not turn on when the sim is run with departure or destination EHAM. Intermediate airports for IF's AI traffic will use the sim stock airport if available,

If you have ten airports in a scenery containing the departure or arrival airports, then all ten will be enabled.

Remember to install scenery, then run P3D/FSX so that the simulator can organise the files. Ensure all the sections you need are enabled and close the sim. The sim organises the files and closes. Now we can run IF, make sure the auto-scenery is disabled (it should be), then run a fresh index so that all the possibilities are available. Then enable auto-scenery.

The way this works means that the simulator must be started by IF so that IF can disable the non-essential scenery. If scenery is deemed essential, whether it has an airport in the plan or not, it will be used anyway.

If we subsequently alter the scenery in the simulator, we must close it, then start IF, re-index with the auto-scenery function disabled - that's important. The IF menu has helper functions that can turn on or off all the scenery.

P3d and IF runs with Admin. All folders are share and I follow the steps in the manual but all scenery is active on a plan EBLG EDRZ. I checked p3d scenery library.

This would really be neat for IF on its on to cancel out scenery not being used. I think this is a first. :)

Thanks for testing - I'm having a look at that today - was working OK but it's possible I stopped it and not re-enabled it during the preview build. Back later.

As always reecemj you are a star:

Before setting up for Auto Scenery, on the Startup page Popup Menu, in the Indexing sub-menu, choose

"Create Subset Files"

Now enable Auto-Scenery and allow the re-index to take place - the new index takes longer this time - be sure you are indexing with your full gamut of scenery before starting, in other words your common scenery set is enabled in the P3D/FSX scenery manager page.

After the new index is built with the auto-scenery enabled we don't touch it and we do not alter the FSX/P3D scenery library or add/remove scenery add-ons - important. If we do then the IF scenery index and recreation of the auto-addon data will have to be repeated before new flights are built.

I just tried a route and the only two addon airports enabled were the endpoints of the plan, all done automatically. What I have done is removed the requirement of having to set "Create Subset Files" in Preview 03. Many thanks again Reece you are the star!

Of course, Ideal Flight is produced by codelegend and so, very many features are first time technical advances in addon and flight plan technology and techniques. Ideal Flight is the only complete solution.

Yeah it works! But am flying in Orbx Germany and it was disable.
I enable in the add-0n airport config but IF disable it after starting flight.

A button on the flight planning page with asscess to the add-on airport config would be great.
Just a little airport scenery manager.

I like to see scenery from 6 to 11 thousand feet so I need whatever am flying over to be active.

I was using Simstarter for a scenery manager but sometimes setting would be change that I did not do.I don't like that.
Thanks for listening. Glad its working and am off today I can do a litte more testing.
