Have to repurchase for v4?

Postby reecemj » Thu Aug 24, 2017 10:54 pm

Am excited the v4 version is up but have to pay full price for it? I thought there would be a upgrade fee. :D

Yes it's a fair point and would seem disappointing to some since many products are discounted for P3D v4 version like the GTN. Discount is a hot subject with Flight 1 right now but it was declined for IF for several reasons.

We are moving on to new times with the new sims and as everyone knows Ideal Flight has never been a pay-for-upgrades product. We have not used the sales model whereby a new version comes out every few years with a discount for current owners. Instead it's a one time purchase exactly like the 32bit versions and runs alongside as a separate app and will be maintained and upgraded for free as the other IF versions have been.

Remember IF10 came out for FSX and was a free upgrade to FSX:SE. IF10Pro came out for P3D v2 and was a free upgrade to v3. Current owners of Ideal Flight versions have been upgraded to the present day and will continue so that all versions are operationally the same, only the support for each platform is different. I'm not saying Ideal Flight Professional will have a free upgrade to P3D v5 but it's likely unless the design of P3D changes radically.

I've made this available elsewhere:

"Under the hood it’s a substantial difference in terms of handling the new P3D platform. Making one Ideal Flight app to run on P3D v2/3 and also P3D v4 was impractical and presented no option other than to create the new version for the 64bit platform and make considerable changes for the going ahead.

In use all Ideal Flight versions maintain the same operational feature set as near as is possible and applicable between simulators. The application remains familiar and most user records and profile data can be copied between versions as well.

Most recently Ideal Flight routes capabilities have been improved slightly and the data handling extended to make routes from fsAerodata as well as several different AIRAC navigation database types, not forgetting the sim native data. Ideal Flight compares data sets to produce the reliable data subset most useful to the chosen user aircraft within the current simulator scenery setup.

Ideal Flight continues to provide the most reliable routes and plans for use of the FMC and GPS systems in the FSX/P3D add-on market today."

I'm very grateful to everyone helping with Ideal Flight - thank you! :D

I must say the support of IF has been excellent. These days flying with out IF has not been very fun in v4. May have to sneak and use the credit card.

I'm glad you mention support because when you buy IF you know you are going to be heard - if you find a problem it will be cured, if you have an idea it will be included if applicable.

Hmm, understandable, and certainly within your options, but a bit of a bummer. I enjoyed it under the platform that was supported, but I'm not sure I can justify an additional $70 for P3Dv4. An upgrade cost perhaps could have been justified, but I understand the reasons for not doing so.

Best of luck with the new version.

Sorry but it seems you misunderstand the product - IFPro like P3D v4 is not an upgrade and in the same way is not discounted, the product is supported with free updates like new FMC files or handling new navigation data for the life of the product.

If you want to pay an upgrade fee then that would be a fixed deal - you would be offered another upgrade discounted in the future perhaps in two years or less. I think that works out more expensive in the long run.

Also remember IF10 >augmented - same price and handles the exact same set of navdata and exports as the latest version IFPro - paid just once for it 7 years ago.
