FSX Crash

Postby Nonno » Thu Jun 30, 2011 11:47 pm

Hi Steve ..... I really enjoy IF. Thank you. My problem is when I try and fly my Diamond 42 Twin Star from Eaglesoft, It crashes FSX every time. The blue fsx load screen comes up but then it stops and a small white box comes up and says that fsx crashed and its trying to find out why. I hit cancel and the IF program is still running in the background.
I tried flying the DA42 without IF and it works fine. Only crashes when Im using IF. I first thought it was only the widescreen version of the plane. They have 2 versions of each model, but it doesn't matter both crash it.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

NO, it must be something in the .FLT file.

You know if you normally save a flight in FSX and load it later (not using IF), try making one of those, create a flight in FSX and save it. Now in explorer try "open with FSX" on that file. It should work normally.

Then try the IF .FLT, it should cause the problem. In the docs\fsx folder as normal IFlight.FLT once you tried it in IF.

Side by side, you should see the difference somewhere. If you like, can you attach both files and send them to the address on the contact page. They are little text files, not a problem.

If that shows nothing I'll get one and try it here, sounds like a good aircraft to have.

Also, make sure that you have checked the Aircraft Parameters for proper values. If any are wrong, like -1 or something, let me know.

Also make sure you have indexed IF, start page, popup menu, maintain indexes. Sometimes IF can miss the addition of some scenery changes, and not prompt you for a re-index.

Best

Hey Steve. I feel like a real idiot. I did what you said/ creating a flight, saving it and then running it with the open with. That worked fine.
I don't understand what you mean by "try the IF .FLT" .....
I did do an open with and I then told it to open it with IF and it did but it was the default flight. Not the flight plan that I had made.
I did check the parameters and they were not right but they weren't -1 or anything either. I re- indexed again, that didn't change anything either.
I'm sorry I'm not too bright when it comes to this, but if you can explain about the IF .FLT ... I'll gladly try again. Sorry for bothering you.

Hi,
It's my fualt, I wasn't very Clear. You nearly got it.
When you run a flight from IF, you will see IFlight.FLT appear in the docs\fsx folder where the other .FLTs are normally saved.
C:\Users\Steve\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\IFlight.FLT
Or instead, when you have only just genned the flight in IF, there will be a 0_IFlight.FLT in the IF Data folder:
C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Flight\New\0_IFlight.FLT
Can insted choose this to open with FSX.

If the problem exists runing fsx like that then the fault lies in the .FLT that IF makes.
Now if that also works OK, we have some other problem with IF, or some kind of clash.

Let me know how that goes, any worries, don't troiuble yourself with it, get back to me and i'll get one of those Diamond 42 Twin Stars from Eaglesoft, find out what's going on.

I've got their Citation X and no problems with it, must be more complex than the Diamond?
Can you try also changing your departure location and destination, just in case it's not a scenery issue?
Thanks; Steve

Hi again Steve .... thanks for all your help.

I did what you said. There was no IF .FLT file in the Documents folder. So I did look in the other folder you said, and found the 0_IFlight.FLT. I then did the open with and tried to open it with MSFS. It worked just as it does with IF, it seems like it's starting but then it crashes. I also changed airports to and from. I hope that is what you wanted me to do.

That's perfect, so now you have two .FLT's the IF one and the FSX one.
If you attach them to email and send them (contact page) I can look to see what the difference is.
the docs folder only gets one when you have tried to launch with IF once, then it get created there too.
Thanks a lot

I just had two good fllights in the DA42X from Eaglesoft. Very nice, although as always, the glass penels sap my fps slightly.
Could you turn off Ai Aircraft by selecting zero in the flight gen page? Maybe an aircraft does not like being run by Ai.
You can also turn off Ai Aircraft by deselecting all your aircraft from Ai Operations; Aircraft Parameters page. Got to do that for each aircraft though.
