Fuel loading

Postby Dean B » Wed Jun 29, 2011 2:14 pm

Steve,

When IF loads fuel, it is loading all tanks equally. It should be loading Left, Right, then Centre if needed.

Yes in the Flight generator page you can set fuel loading to even or central. Unfortunately some aircraft dont work properly unless all tanks have at least some fuel in them. e.g. Captain Sim B52 and others. Therefor the default is even loading.

Ah, something else I failed to spot :)

I'll see if if it works for the iFly NG next flight.

To be honest, the fuel loading algorithm fills the center tank first then the outer tanks, to maintain center of gravity. However I do know that some planes can handle better with the fuel farther from the center.

In real life all Turbo Jets wing tanks are loaded first. C of G isn't affected by fuel loading whereas the Payload does. Hence the important MAC value.

So in other words, I should get IF to load the outer tanks first then through to the inner tanks - will do.
Thanks Dean.

I've got the fuel set to Even or Distributed now. In distributed mode, the tanks are now filled farthest from CofG first, down to the nearest to CofG. - coming in [rd].

Any news on (rd)? I tried loading what I thought was the right sequence, only to have the left engine shut down mid flight. Can we not have a menu option with a simple 'Drain Wing Tanks first'.

Say the trip needs 60% fuel capacity: If you chose Even loading you get the same percentage fill each tank, so each tank is set to 60% full. If you chose Central loading then the tanks closest to the CofG are loaded first (in pairs, if paired).
In version [rd] you get Even, Inboard (the old Central) and Outboard. Outboard loads the fuel tanks farthest from the CofG first.
The tanks are assumed drained before filling.
Always try even loading first; I have found strange results with some addon aircraft unless there is at least some fuel in each tank.

Do you mean you want a menu item in the simulation that drains the tanks?
Version [rd] out soon!
