Some questions - weather and PMDG MD-11

Ugh, I should have tried this along time ago - I tried saving a flight in MD11 from within FSX, then loading that directly (by double clicking the .flt) and it loads with the same 2D panel screwiness, so I guess there's no way around that issue.

More testing... starting FSX with the FSX main menu button in IF, then selecting the MD11, then using the Load button in the FSX interface loads the IF flight in the MD11 just fine, with 2D panels aligned properly

Now it still will not "hook up" with FSX though. For example, after doing the above, I can go to the Addons... menu bar of FSX and IF isn't there. But as soon as I go to the World and Time -> Weather interface, and click OK, IF then "hooks up" with FSX and then all is well.

There must be something else running because IF is waiting for FSX to "come back". IF makes a tiny request and awaits its turn, if you have to go and make a setting, something is hanging simconnect. What else do you have running? FSUIPC? I only mention that as I forget it's there, that has wind smoothing...

...the only thing i've seen FSUIPC do strange is it copies ATC text from an old .FLT to a new one.

I don't have FSUIPC, in fact this is clean install of FSX actually. See, that's why I think it's the MD11 itself that is holding IF from linking via Simconnect. The MD11 takes full control of Simconnect for a while while it does its initialization process which takes about 17 seconds. You can even see the status of this process via Simconnect text in the top of the screen. I'm no FSX development expert by any means but seeing as the MD11 is the only aircraft that has this issue (among MANY that I've tried) it must be this.

I suppose the PMDGs are totally different to regular addons, with some addons you may be forced to use their panel positioning or cargo loading systems. But the countown during the initialisation should run concurrently with simconnect and FSX. When I just checked it does here. So I still think there is a gremlin in your system somewhere. Are you sure you've not got REX or AS running?

No, I definitely have no other programs running that would be interfering. This MD11 problem has existed since I first tried IF, through 2 different PC builds and about 20 different fresh installs of Windows and FSX (no joke). So I have no idea why my IF can't init with FSX w/ the MD11 while yours can.

Have you tried between DX9 and DX10, windows modes are a little different between them could affect panels - who knows what, ati vs nv could cause differences. Perhaps the FSX Weather page holds a clue.... got to sign off, speak later...

...have a look at this directory

C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10\Profiles\Setups

delete these or anything similar if there

0_PMDG_MD11_GE_Default.ini
Default_Default.ini
PMDG_MD11_GE_Default.ini
Tower_Default_Default.ini

then run IF and build a new route

start the flight and
position views -> save settings on the addon IF menu
position panels -> save settings again

now try Start Flight on the addon IF menu.

There can be problems with controls. I had an axis for trim, the 737 caused an exception and crashed FSX. The resulting panelstate files caused the 737 to loop the loop when i unpaused the flight

could try removng any trim axis, or looking closely at the setup.
