I'm fixing a possibility that some addon airports can look Ok in the briefing, but some runway data may not be obtained correctly.

...Seems OK but only affects the Assist function to move to an alternate runway when the official runway start is to the side of the runway. For the Assist function we only want to be on the runway aligned with the runway heading not the real start points.

Re: V5 - flight generation fails

Postby Irhander » Mon May 18, 2020 11:28 am

Hello

I do run a solo P3D v5 install on my PC. Install and running of software is fine, but I experienced a hickup when generating the flight:

IF10Pro tries to save the briefing files into the "P3D v4 files" folder under "documents" instead of "P3D v5 files".
first, that v4 folder did not exist on my system, so IF10 stoped flight generation with an error. Once I generated the v4 files folder, the flight generation ran through OK. the files were stored in the "P3D v4 files" folder...

I did not find any setting where to point the SW to the correct folder!
Until then, I have to copy the files manually...

regards,
Reinhard

Hi Reinhard,

Thanks for reporting. I wonder that IF is picking up information from an older install of P3D and sounds like an oversight on my part. Or could be a problem in P3D since the folder name is actually unknown to IF and the folder name is given to IF by the simulator itself.

Have you previously had v4 installed and removed?

Can you run IF Setup and check the following:

On the setup page is the P3D location box, to the right of that is the small button '!'. Can you press the button a couple of times...

Can you see what happens when that button is pressed, does it show v4 and v5 or just v5

Hi Steve,

I used to have v4 installed on my PC. But after a bad C:-harddrive crash, I had to do a fresh reinstall of Win10 on a brand new SSD drive. on my external P3D SSD (drive H:), there is still a residual p3D V4 installation, but Windows does not know about that...

To force install an older scenery into V5, I once added the HKEY/LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE Key in the registry to fake a V4 installation at the same location as my new V5 location, but I removed that fake registry key already.

When hitting the "!" button, the IF10 installer only finds the correct V5 directory, even after hitting the button several times.

OK. If you run IF setup and update now does that fix it?

Do you still have a program folder present?
example: C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

I ran the IF setup again. strange thing: per default, it showed the correct V5 folder destination.
first time I clicked on "!", the box was blank! 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. time it went back to showing the correct V5 folder. I selected Update now. NOW IT WORKS! :D

just to be sure, I checked the log and V4 files folder. nothing there, no error messages.

Thanks for the hints!

P.S.: Next thing I have to fix with Lockheed Martin is: my kneeboard only shows blank pages... but since that is true for default missions as well, I think that is no IF issue... ;)

Thanks for the feedback. The kneeboard blank has been enterred onto the LM forum.

I will investigate the setup function which shows the program folder. Thanks again for the help.

We can also just type or paste in the name there if we want. IF won't go on a hunt for a folder so has to rely on the system registry for initial information about what to expect during the IF installation.

There's other ways to install for problems like the [FSAltSetup] section more in the Help system (F1 key).

EDIT: This is what I was typing earlier might be helpful...

Hi Reinhard,

Can you go to: C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight Professional\Config

open Config.ini with notepad:

In [Versions] section

delete the entry
FSVersion=5.0.24.34874

In [FSSetup] section

delete the entries
FSDir=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5
FSTowerDir=C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\SimObjects\Misc\ControlTower

Temporarily rename the folder:
C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

Run IF setup and Update.

Restore the original name:
C:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

I was thinking along the lines that IF sees for some reason the v4 program folder when obtaining the folder names. In which case There would be a mistake in IF somewhere. That would just mean that if you temporarily renamed the v4 program folder then updated IF the problem would resolve. I can work on a solution to stop that happening again.

If that doesn't help we will have to look harder. However there's a way to force IF to work with any folder names you want. Again in Config.ini

In [FSAltSetup] section

insert the line
FSDocuments=C:\Users\Steve\Documents\Prepar3D v5 Files

also you might need:
FSScenery=
FSDLL=
FSEXE=
FSCFG=
FSProgramData=
FSRoaming=

I think I found the problem. A missing item in the registry can fool IF to choose the wrong folder. Not sure without complete study of the system.

Thanks again for the input.
