Indexing issues on new if 10 pro install on P3Dv3.1

Postby jgerow » Fri Jan 08, 2016 1:10 pm

Trying to do a new install of IF 10 Pro.
Do have P3Dv3.1 with Alabedo C172RG, VoxATC, plus several MegaSceneryEarth titles.
Do have P3Dv2 installed (but currently the base directory has been re-named and the P3Dv2 directory re-directed to P3Dv3 so those add-ons without P3Dv3 installers will work.
Do have a [rarely used] FSX installation.

P3Dv3 is on drive S: (as are most of the Flight Sim directories)
Want to install IF 10 pro also to drive S:
Windows 7 64-bit

Install starts but with the airport indexing bar, it only goes halfway before giving the indexing error.
Do not see a log file generated.

Have removed parked.dat.
Have disabled all the MegaSceneryEarth add-on scenery.
Have tried installing IF 10 pro to the C: drive.
Have done the P3Dv3 "repair" install (and noted that some of it's scenery files have minor changes from v2.5)
The Alabedo C172RG has a couple of config issues the P3Dv3 squawks about, but does not affect its use.
After disabling the MegaSceneryEarth add-on scenery, or after the P3Dv3 repair install, there are no issues when P3Dv3 rebuilds the scenery index.
There are no squawks when VoxATC builds its index.

Any ideas?
Any way to get IF 10 to indicate what and where the problem is when it indexes?

Thanks!

Hi Jim,

You are saying the program installs OK, and the indexing sets off OK, but half way through there is an error and indexing fails?

Look in C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10 Professional\Log\0_Flight.log.

There's no problems found in the 3.1 scenery, and I've got Megascenery so that's probably OK. Although unlikely, it's possible some addon scenery is unrecognised in some way, usually this would be near the start of the index process. Aircraft are indexed after the scenery.

Installing IF10 on drives other than C: are not an issue, although the data will still be located in C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10 Professional.

I would disable all the scenery addons and try the index process with stock P3D first to be sure it's not some other issue.

Best regards

Also we can look in C:\ProgramData\Ideal Flight 10 Professional\Index at part of the index:

With notepad, after an attempt to index the scenery, open up Scenery.idx, that will show the list of scenery folders. Check this shows your addon scenery folders with the correct paths.

An easy way to check the sim with stock scenery only is to backup and delete or rename the scenery.cfg file found in C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3. Start the sim, this will make a new stock scsnery.cfg, close the sim, then run IF10 scenery index. If that works we can look at the addon scenery. It's rare these days, but there's always the possibility that something in addon scenery has not come up before to cause an issue.

WINNER!!
pre_06 installs just fine with original scenery.cfg on P3Dv3.1 Win7-64
(p3dv3.1 stock + MegasceneryEarth + MegasceneryEarth 4x + aerosoft/us-cities-boston)

So issue is with the 10_015pa version (i.e. "latest" link)
[note: did get through all the scenery files in scenery.cfg, but apparently _015pa couldn't handle the additional mission data, as that's where pre_06 continued after doing the index update.]

Off to do the additional tweaks, and registration

Thanks!

Good work Jim, thanks for letting me know. Yes the preview version is a beta, the current wrapped version is the old v2/2.5 version. I hope you enjoy it, look out for pre_07 soon, then shortly after will be sent to Flight1 for the release of the official P3D v2/3 version.

All the best
